My Custom Kicks

I bought these Converse trainers/sneakers/tekkies about two years ago with the intention to paint on them but, never got round to them and eventually forgot about it.  That was until I got the book Small Stash Sewing by Melissa Averinos from the yummygoods blog.  In the book, Melissa showed a pattern to make shoelaces from fabric and I just had to give it a go.  I wrote a bit more about Melissa and her book here when I recently met her in London.

I did not plan the painting as I just wanted to paint freely and see what happens.  I am pretty happy with the result even if it is a very colourful and hippie-like.  If you know me by now, in my world, colour is good.

Once I've finished the hand painting on the one shoe, I had to replicate it on the other.  Once the shoes were done, I made the shoelaces according to Melissa's instructions which were very clear and it turned out to be a quick and easily little project.

Happy weekend

Good morning everybody!  

Just wanted to take a moment to wish you all a good weekend, I know that I have certainly looked forward to it this week.

Hubby has finally finished his book and so, I will be proof reading this weekend.  Apart from that, I am still working my way around Illustrator, getting more comfortable with it and definitely feel convinced that it has the features that I have missed in Photoshop.  They work really well together though for textile design so, that's where my pennies will be going this month.  I also want to work on some sewing projects and I think that's where my to-do list has to end.

By the way, don't let these photos deceive you.  They were taken during Summer this year.  Looking outside my window this morning, we have clouds, rain and gale force winds, which doesn't make for a good photo and today, I'm in the mood for some colour.

One sunny day

I'm still off sick with the flu but have been enjoying the time on my own. And, on a day like today when the sun is shinning through my studio window and my Begonia is blossoming her little heart out, 

I really feel like I can 'hang in there'.

Of course, it is all made even easier when Hubby comes home with a surprise bouquet of roses 

to make me feel better AND a copy of one of my favourite South-African magazines, Idees, arrive in the post.  A birthday subscription from my Mum.

I hope that no matter what is going on for you today, that you get to feel some love too.
